Find your ancestors in East Kent Burial Index

Discover your English relatives through the East Kent Burial Index. The Index includes all parochial and non-conformist registers in the Diocese of Canterbury. Through the records you will find your relative’s age at the time of his/her death, where your ancestor lived and at times the notes on the transcripts can include further familial information.

The East Kent Burial Index includes transcripts of the original index. The details in each record can vary, but most will include the following information:

  • Name
  • Year
  • Age
  • Birth Date
  • Year of Birth
  • Place
  • Parish
  • Abode (residence)
  • Burial Date
  • Notes
  • County and Country

The index contains over 120,000 records and lists more than 300 locations within Kent, including the county town of Maidstone and Canterbury, one of England’s oldest cities.

There are over 500 unknown entries in the East Kent Burial Index, in which the person’s name is not known or not given. There are a couple explanations for this. Some of the records explain that the person was found on the shore or drowned; it may have been an accidentally death. Also, sometimes in the unknown records we find that the deceased is an infant child who has either been found or has not be named.
