How does the kinship calculator work?

You may find that the more people you add to your family tree, the more confusing their connection to each other becomes. Should that be the case, our handy kinship calculator can work out the relationship between any two relatives.

Firstly, click on the ancestor you’re curious about, and then on their full profile. On the overview tab of their profile, you’ll see the kinship calculator button where relations are listed. Click it, add another relative’s name and click 'calculate'.

The result will be a clear explanation of the relationship between the two family members.
