Brothers, Frederick George Sweeney JONES & Charles Edward John JONES The following details are for my grandmothers 2 brothers who enlisted in Western Australia and fought in the Somme Offensive, France. 11 months later they were both dead.

They were in the same battalion and were killed on the same day, in the Battle of Pozieres, at Mouquet Farm in France. Bodies were not recovered. They were 26 years old and 24 years old.

Fred and Charlie Jones perished on French soil just 11 months after enlisting in Australia.

Frederick George Sweeney JONES enlisted with his brother Charles CE Jones on 25 Sept 1915 and joined on 2 Oct 1915 at Blackboy Hill, Western Australia. On his enlistment form he said he was a member of the 25th Light Horse, Machine Gun Section. Allotted to and proceeded to join 51st Battalion 3 Mar 1916. Missing in Action, Mouquet Farm, Pozieres, France on 3 Sept 1916 and pronounced Killed in Action. Name on memorial at Villers-Bretonneaux, France.

Awarded the 1914/15 Star, The British War Medal, Victory Medal. Memorial plaque and memorial scroll sent to father John Sweeney Jones 1921 & 1922 respectively.
