North West Kent Family History Society

We are pleased to be working in partnership with the North West Kent Family History Society which encourages the study of family history and genealogy in South East London and North West Kent.

The North West Kent Family History Society was formed in 1978 with the object of encouraging the study of family history and genealogy in South East London and North West Kent.

We currently have around 1400 members whose interests cover the whole of Great Britain and beyond. Membership offers a quarterly journal, monthly newsletters and regular email updates together with branch meetings including talks on family and social history at Bromley, Dartford and Sevenoaks plus a library at Joydens Wood. Our Research Service is based there and regular workshops are also held on various family history and computing topics.

Vital records

The North West Kent Family History Society has made it possible for us to bring you even more vital records for both Kent and Sussex. If you have ancestry in these areas, then these collections could be vital to your family history research:

Dartford Census records

If you have ancestry in Kent, then you may be able to find your ancestors recorded on the 1801 and 1821 census for Dartford. Explore how many families lived in your relative’s household, details of those family members, and if they were employed in agriculture. The records may also reveal whether your relative was a lodger, a servant, a prisoner, or the inmate of a workhouse.

Kent, Bexley Asylum Minute Books, 1901-1939

Did your ancestor have a connection with Bexley Asylum in Kent? If so, delve into the details taken straight from the asylum's minute books to find staff, patients and contractors who worked and lived in the asylum between 1901 and 1939.

Bexley Asylum, which opened in 1898, was London’s 7th asylum. It was built on 750 acres of land next to Dartford Heath, the so-called Heath Asylum housed 2,544 patients at its occupancy peak in 1915. None were there on a voluntary basis.

Bromley Absent Voters List, 1918

Did your ancestor from Bromley in Kent vote in 1918 while serving in the First World War? If so, this collection allows you to uncover your ancestor’s service number, rank, regiment and home address. You can then use your ancestor’s service number to search Findmypast’s extensive First World War record collection.
