Derbyshire Ancestral Research Group

We are pleased to be working in partnership with the Derbyshire Ancestral Research Group, comprised of enthusiasts mainly in the fields of family and local history and involved in recording monumental inscriptions throughout Derbyshire.

Within the county of Derbyshire, the Derbyshire Ancestral Research Group (DARG) is an informal group without any official membership, elected officers or affiliations to any other organisation. It comprises enthusiasts mainly in the fields of family and local history and is involved in recording monumental inscriptions throughout Derbyshire, with occasional visits over the county border. During the winter, effort is transferred to the transcribing of parish registers and other archival records held at the County Record Office in Matlock.

These are checked and indexed during workshop meetings held in the group's headquarters in Somercotes near Alfreton. Visitors are very welcome to attend and may search the ever-growing library. This industrious Group also enjoys organised trips to national archives throughout the year.

The Derbyshire Ancestral Research Group have contributed to the National Burial Index For England & Wales.

You can explore more than 12 million burial records in this collection, including thousands of records for Derbyshire. These records can help you discover your ancestor's final resting place, their year of death and religious denomination.
