What can these records tell me?

This collection currently includes only one title: Crosserlough Census Index 1821, published in 2000 by the Genealogical Society of Ireland. The index was compiled by Marie Keogh. The 1821 census of Crosserlough, County Cavan, was taken on 28 May 1821. The Four Courts fire in Dublin destroyed the original census documents. Thankfully, a copy was made prior to this and was safely stored in the Courthouse in Cavan before being transferred to the National Archives in Dublin.

There are just under 8,000 individuals in the 1821 census. The following information was recorded in the census:

  • Column 1 – Last name
  • Column 2 – First name(s)
  • Column 3 – Address
  • Column 4 – Age
  • Column 5 – Family name of household
  • Column 6 – Relationship to the head of household
  • Column 7 – Occupation
