The first true trade directories for Ireland were those published by Peter Wilson for Dublin, starting in 1751 and continuing until 1837, with a break 1754-1759.
At the beginning, the information supplied in the directories consisted of alphabetical lists of merchants and traders, supplying name, address and occupation. In early years these were not comprehensive lists however, they grew steadily over the decades.
