Prior to the introduction of civil registration in 1837, all vital events were recorded in the parish registers. They were maintained at a parish level and copies, called bishop’s transcripts, were sent to the overseeing bishop of that parish. Baptism records are useful for anyone tracing their family tree because they provide the names of your ancestor’s parents, another generation to add to the growing family tree. You will also discover your ancestor’s birthplace. A location will help you to narrow your search for more documents related to the family.

The Buckinghamshire baptism index was created from the original records held at the Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies. The county is located in South East England and is one of the home counties. The largest town is Milton Keyes, and the county town is Aylesbury.
