Inquests into Sudden Deaths in the Liberty of St Etheldreda Suffolk

The Liberty formerly belonged to the Prior and Convent of Ely, which in 1541 were changed into Dean and Chapter. The area covered by the Liberty is shown on the map. The Suffolk Archives at Ipswich holds the records of coroners' inquests held in the Liberty of St Etheldreda for the period 1767-1936.

This index has been compiled from the Indexes which were prepared for the Suffolk Archives from bundles of papers which are the records of the Coroners' Inquests for the Liberty of St Etheldred, 1767-1921. (The bundle for the year 1855 is missing)

The index includes a reference to the inquest record in the Suffolk Archive so if you find an entry of interest you can follow up read the whole report which includes a lengthy (and interesting) description of inquest report.
