John Watson Stewart's The Gentleman’s and Citizen’s Almanack contains a wide variety of useful information ranging from army lists and mail coaches to farming and schools. For example, included is a list of staff and members of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, from which we can learn, for instance, that John Adrien, MD, was a member of the college and a practitioner of midwifery. In addition, this volume contains an extensive business directory.

Publication began in 1736 in Dublin and continued until 1844. It is one of three publications that make up The Treble Almanac of 1814. The other two publications are:

• The English Court Registry, which lists key individuals of the day, including royalty, MPs, Army and Naval officers, and so on.
• Wilson's Dublin Directory, a trade directory listing Dublin streets, lanes, and alleys, plus details of merchants and traders.
