City of York District Family History Society

City of York & District Family History Society was established in 1975 to cover the particular interests and needs of family historians who wished to research ancestors in this part of Yorkshire. The area covered by the society is the modern Archdeaconry of York, which stretches from Coxwold, Hovingham, Sherburn in Harfordlythe in the North to Ledsham, Birkin, Selby and Drax in the South, and from Bramham, Biltonand Sherburn in Elmet in the West to Huggate and Bubwith in the East. Membership numbers approximately 800, and new members are always welcomed.

The Society holds regular meetings in New Earswick, York with a variety of speakers on mainly family and local history topics. There is also a research centre at The Raylor Centre, York. “The City of York & District FHS Journal”, distributed three times a year, enables members at home and further afield to enjoy general articles on family history, learn more about the area of their ancestors, be kept up to date with events and all the services that the Society offers, and have their personal family history interests published.
